Our Story

The Best of Kin family, (brothers Ryan and Collin and close friend Cole), are truly bonded by beer. Happy hour was a long-standing tradition in their homes growing up. Beer was enjoyed after a hard day’s work when they would catch up on their day. This quality time helped shape a sense of togetherness… and a love for beer!

The passion for making beer started with over 10 years of home brewing which led Collin to pursue further university education in science and complete a masters of brewing and distilling through Scotland’s Heriot Watt University.

In November 2014, Ryan and Collin’s father passed away. They realized life is too short not to explore their shared dream of opening a brewery and to create a place where friends, family, and community can come together and bond over beer (or beverage of choice). Cole elevated the team with extensive experience in the restaurant industry and passion for making great food and drinking craft beer.

On September 23, 2022, Best of Kin Social opened it’s doors to the vibrant neighbourhood of Sunalta in SW Calgary, offering patrons delicious beer, nostalgic comfort food + family classics, in a cozy environment that might remind you of a cooler version of your Granny’s basement.

The goal is simple: make the best damn beer we possibly can, so we can share it with the ones we love and raise a glass to the ones we’ve lost. We hope you join us for a pint soon!
